Famous Southindian Actors who failed in Politics

We have seen many political parties and many film actors as political leaders till now. Political parties were started to fight with the government, to create awareness among people, and to fulfill the needs of the people. But winning in politics after starting a political party might not be easy. Sometimes it might take years, or even decades, to achieve success.

1. Praja Rajyam Party

Indian film actor Chiranjeevi didn’t need a separate introduction. He didn’t have any separate identity apart from his movies. The victories in movies, the trust given by people, and the problems of the people made him enter politics. He took the pain he suffered from the government he was part of and started a political party. With the aim of doing good to the people, Chiranjeevi entered politics and started the Praja Rajyam Party in 2008.

In the first external meeting of this party, 10 lakh people attended. In the general elections held in 2009, when they contested in 294 constituencies, they won in 18 and secured second place in 32 constituencies. With Congress leading in the majority, and TDP in second place, Praja Rajyam Party secured third place in 18 constituencies. Winning in 18 constituencies within just 8 to 9 months after its establishment is a big deal. Later, Rajasekhar Reddy passed away, the Telangana movement occurred, and after his father’s demise, Jagan started a new party with the aim of establishing it. With such reasons and due to the high cost involved in politics, Chiranjeevi ended his journey in Praja Rajyam Party within two years.

2. Thalli Telangana Party

Once Vijayashanti had more craze than star heroes. She entered politics due to the injustice happening in Telangana. Speaking about the injustices happening to Telangana people, she established a party named “Thalli Telangana” with the goal of serving the Telangana people. If a separate state is achieved, this party made efforts for a separate nation. During the same time, while attempting for a separate state, TRS party was very famous. To achieve a separate state, two parties fought separately. Kodandaram Ramu merged Thalli Telangana Party with TRS.

3. DMDK Party

Popular actor Vijayakanth in Tamil cinema had a good reputation. Though he won only one seat out of 234 contested seats in 2006 without any alliance, he contested again in the general elections held in 2009, but couldn’t win even a single seat. With the support of NDA coalition in 2014, he managed to win 14 seats for DMDK party. But in the 2021 elections, the party lost in 60 constituencies. Amidst this, Vijayakanth distanced party workers and supporters and vanished into oblivion.

4. Jana Sena Party

Pawan Kalyan, who had peak careers in movies, entered politics. He started the Jana Sena Party in 2014. Till now, ten years have passed, but he hasn’t received proper support from people. After entering politics, many people made negative comments about him. In reality, Pawan Kalyan doesn’t need anyone else to criticize him, as he himself is enough to do it. Though there’s no necessity for him to get separated from Janasena, Pawan Kalyan started Nara Sena. But he doesn’t have the need to form a separate party again. With the inability to even secure one seat and the inability to gain proper support from people, Pawan Kalyan’s political journey is still in turmoil.

5. Makkal Needhi Maiam

Kamal Haasan, a renowned actor in Indian cinema, ventured into politics by forming his own political party in 2019. Despite contesting in 37 constituencies in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, his party failed to win a single seat. Similarly, in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, they couldn’t secure any seats, indicating their struggle to gain significant political traction.

6. Anna Telugu Desam Party (ATDP)

Anna Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was founded by Nandamuri Harikrishna to address the issues faced by the people. During its inception, Harikrishna played a significant role, even driving a vehicle named “Chaitanya Rath” himself. His involvement in politics grew, especially after accompanying his father, N. T. Rama Rao, on political campaigns. However, despite initial enthusiasm, the party faced setbacks in subsequent elections, failing to secure any seats.
